Musanya Gerald — known on stage as MG on the Vybz — is a versatile Ugandan musician and songwriter born of 1996 in Busia, in Uganda’s eastern region. A proud member of the Musamia tribe, Gerald’s music is rooted in the rhythms and storytelling traditions of his homeland while embracing a modern, continental sound. He launched his recording career at the start of 2025 with his debut single Nkooye okulinda, immediately marking him as a fresh voice to watch in Uganda’s evolving music scene.
Raised in a community where music, dance and communal storytelling are part of daily life, Gerald absorbed a wide range of influences — from traditional folk melodies and tribal chants to the Afrobeat, reggae and contemporary pop circulating across East Africa. That mix informs his versatility: he writes hooks that stick, crafts verses with emotional clarity, and moves comfortably between upbeat dance numbers and intimate ballads.
MG on the Vybz writes most of his own material and takes an active role in arranging his tracks, aiming to create music that is both culturally resonant and commercially accessible. Nkooye okulinda introduced listeners to his knack for memorable melody and relatable lyricism, and the single’s reception laid the groundwork for a string of live performances and local collaborations across eastern and central Uganda.
Beyond songwriting and singing, MG on the Vybz is known for his energetic stage presence — a performer who connects directly with audiences and brings stories to life through movement and expression. He balances modern production with organic instrumentation, often incorporating traditional percussion or melodic elements that nod to his Musamia heritage.
MG on the Vybz is deeply community-minded. He uses his platform to highlight cultural pride and youth opportunity in eastern Uganda, and he is committed to developing his craft — pursuing collaborations with producers, vocal coaches and fellow artists to refine his sound and reach a broader audience across East Africa and beyond.
