Andy P,whose real name is Reuben Andrew Putire, is a man on a mission. The Blantyre based gospel Hip-Hop musician started music long time ago but, despite not making a name, he believes it is just a matter of time. He released his debut single in 2014 which be admits did not spark the market and he nearly gave up before making another serious move in 2018 dropping a track titled "Umafuna chani" which features a number of artist, " I guess the debut album was all about testing the waters. The song did not do well but I believe it was a learning process, what matters most in life is not to be afraid of making a move or taking step and since I made that first step,I have not looked back."Putire said. Not done with his music artistry, Putire went on to realise another song titled " Usataye mtima" which features Robertson music. He then went on to drop another track titled"Zokambakamba". In this song, i am narrating a story of a child who grew up in a poor family but he never gave up on life and all he did was to believe in himself and it was because of his hard work that he ended up getting opportunities that bettered his life. Putire said. Having worked on a number of songs that have enjoyed airplay in some of the local radio stations, Putire said he is now set to release a seven-track extended playlist titled FOUNDATION OF CHANGE alongside his brother Framu Tes. It is still a long way for me but I know what I am doing and I have belief that I will get to my destination. The beauty with music is that it gives you a chance to express yourself and it gives you a chance to talk about your fears. " Putire said. He said, having worked with a number of musicians including Young D,Josh Ali, Robertson music, Towera,Niekay, Khomzy; he is contemplating collaborations with other artists. There is power in collaborations. From collaborations, You learn other styles of music and then you also have that chance to experience and and at the same time share your idea as well, the musican said. He also said that in this modern time, it was high time young people embraced technology by having their works on online platforms "These days, it is also a matter of how you reach out to people out there. As artists, we need not live in the past but we have to use all the necessary instruments to connect with our audiences. I have not had enough live performances simply because I was trying as much as possible to learn other basics but now all is well," Putire said. He said music is career he has embraced, having failed to go further with his education." I am looking at his continuing with my studies because education is important, knowledge. I stopped not because I didn't have enough in terms of fees." Putire said. He said despite doing gospel Hip-Hop his songs are also rooted in culture as part of promoting and preserving culture. As young people, we need to embrace culture and also take a lead role in promoting and preserving it . Although I am doing Hip-Hop, I have not run away from fusing traditional dances." Putire said. He said, with many young people attached to urban music, which has elements of genres such as Hip-Hop, he also thought it wise to play a role of ministeringthe word of God through music but through hip-hop. Hip-hop or rap into and young people are into and so, I knew that the only connection for me to reach out to young people is doing genres that the youth enjoy. I love to sing for the Lord and I am happy with what I am doing," Putire said. The musican from traditional Authority Mlumbe in Zomba district.
