Sabah Salum Muchacho, born Sabah Khamis Said Bagmesh on November 4, 1960, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, is a renowned Tanzanian Taarab singer. She began her musical career in 1984 when she joined the Dar es Salaam-based group 'Mamesh,' led by Ahmed Azan.
Starting as a chorus responder, she quickly rose to become a talented composer and lead vocalist.
She comes from a musically inclined family. Her brother Abdulrahman, known as Muchacho, managed the successful Lion Team band in the 1970s. The nickname
"Muchacho" was inspired by Mexican characters in Western films, especially those portrayed by Fernando Sancho. Due to Abdulrahman's resemblance to Sancho, the name became his identity.
Sabah gained wide recognition for her contributions to the Wakili Wao Modern Taarab band, where her talent earned her critical acclaim. In 2023, she received the Tanzania Music Award for Best Female Taarab Artist and Taarab Song of the Year.
In addition to her musical achievements, Sabah maintains an active presence on social media, using the handle sabahsalum on both Facebook and Instagram. Her enduring influence and dedication have secured her a lasting legacy in Tanzania's music and cultural scene.
